Security and Functionality Update – August

Throughout the last couple of weeks left of August we will be updating and changing things around. Full list of changes below.

Security:

Due to mass amounts of spam bots that have been visiting Midget URL, we will be implementing a Captcha to the link creation page. It will be drawn randomly, which will hopefully keep most of the bots away and not using up the unique hashes for legitimate users.

Functionality:

We’ve noticed a lot of links contain double http’s, spaces, etc. We’ve created a ‘clean link’ function, which will remove the http:// and www. from all links added to our database. They will then be readded once that specific link is called to redirect.
